Apple Adopts Eco-Friendly Packaging for iPads

Excludes Chargers in EU and UK

Apple Inc. has made significant changes to the packaging of its latest iPad models, the iPad Pro M4 and iPad Air M2, in a move to further its environmental commitments. As of this latest release, the company will no longer include charging bricks in the boxes for customers in the European Union and the United Kingdom, aligning with the EU’s Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive to curb e-waste.

While this change affects only customers in the EU and UK, Apple has taken a global step towards sustainability by eliminating Apple logo stickers from all iPad packaging. This decision supports Apple’s goal of achieving completely plastic-free packaging.

Customers purchasing the new iPad models in the affected regions will still receive a USB-C to USB-C charging cable, but will need to purchase charging bricks separately if required. Despite the potential inconvenience, this policy underscores Appleā€™s dedication to environmental sustainability.

Moreover, an internal memo obtained by 9to5Mac indicates that while Apple stores will no longer include logo stickers in the iPad boxes, customers interested in obtaining these stickers can still request them at Apple stores, ensuring that those who value the branding can access it in an environmentally friendly manner.

This packaging strategy by Apple could signal future changes across other product lines, including iPhones and Macs, as the company continues to push for reduced package waste and increased environmental responsibility.

Apple’s initiative is part of a broader industry trend towards sustainability, reflecting growing consumer demand for environmentally conscious manufacturing and packaging practices. As other tech giants observe Apple’s adjustments, similar changes may be on the horizon for electronic devices industry-wide.
